My Letter On Fresno's Water Crisis Makes The Bee

I see your story [April 24] about the city of Fresno's tightened watering rules as another example of city government failing to lead by example. For starters, take a look at City Hall. The expanse of lawn around the building is immense. What is the purpose of such a huge amount of grass, other than outdated aesthetics?
Also, next time you are driving around some of the newer commercial developments, notice all the grass that is never walked on except by those pushing a mower.
Fresno should be leading by example with drought-tolerant landscaping at City Hall. And, the city planning department should have long ago stopped approving commercial developments that feature the lush landscaping we can no longer pretend is natural to our local environment.
City government needs to be a better model of the change it wants to foster in its citizens.

I would also like to mention that my wife and I are doing our part by removing our front lawn and replacing it with drought tolerant landsccaping!
